Meet Kayla.
I've known Kayla for just over two years now. I met her just as she was heading into 9th grade. She's always been fun-loving and a great friend. In fact, we first met during a session with her and three of her good friends. They had a blast together during that first session.
Kayla is passionate about civil rights and women's equality. She is an advocate for social justice and for people who aren't being heard. She's always updating her social circle with important civic issues taking place in the community and the world.
She wants to be a documentary filmmaker to highlight the social issues she feels so strongly about. She's an artist, an avid reader, a music-lover, and as I said before, she's a great friend.
Kayla is also an accomplished swimmer. She has been swimming competitively since she was 8-years-old. What's more, she began competing against high school swimmers when she was only 12-years-old! She enjoys swimming because it gives her mind time to slow down and think. She can simply focus on the water, her lane, and the finish line ahead.
She plans on going to art school when she graduates from high school in 2022.
One special note is that Kayla helped me create my first published portrait in a major portraiture magazine. Scroll through the images and find the photos with her yellow hoodie. The last one of those was published as a full-page feature in Shutter Magazine!
I can't wait to create more with Kayla as she continues through her junior and senior years!
